One of the highlights of this weekend was bringing Cleo home! This afternoon, after the shows ended, Danny reluctantly gave me back my girl for her to come home with us LOL. Having finished her AKC Grand Championship a few weeks ago, it was finally time for Cleo to come home and become a professional couch potato, like the rest of the dogs in my home!
Cleo’s acclimation to my lifestyle started immediately with a thorough bath in the hotel’s bathtub, followed by a night on the town with me. I took her to dinner with me and introduced her to some locals before heading back to the hotel for a good night’s rest. Below is a photo of Cleo in the hotel with her new cow hoof and then a picture of her hanging out with me at Sebring Diner, enjoy! ORSO TAKES BEST OF BREED AND MAKES THE CUT IN WORKING GROUP IN SEBRING, FLORIDA! – 04.21.20124/21/2012 Today was a great show day for Team Costa Bel! I drove up to Sebring, Florida, bright and early this morning to go hang out with Orso and Karma at the Sebring dog shows and spend some quality time with my handler, Daniel Sanchez. This was a small show and very relaxed, so we had a nice time!
Orso was awarded Best of Breed and Karma was awarded Best of Opposite under Judge Steven Gladstone with handlers, Daniel Sanchez and Susan McQueen, respectively. Orso then went on to show in Working Group and made the cut! This was so cool! There were 16 dogs competing in the Working Group. Making the cut means that the judge selects a group of his favorites, eliminating the majority of the other dogs, and from this selection he then awards his top 4 placements. Thanks to all involved in today’s show successes! Below are our favorite photos of Orso in the Working Group ring, enjoy! Orso on 04.12.2012 taking Best of Breed for a 5-point major toward his AKC Grand Championship under Judge Jean Fournier with handler Daniel Sanchez. Thanks to all involved!
This afternoon, on the last day of the 3-day Perry, Georgia, dog show cluster, Judge Susan Catlin awarded Orso Breed of Breed in a class with an impressive Cane Corso entry for another 5-point major with other champions defeated counting toward his AKC Grand Championship. She also awarded Karma Select Bitch for additional AKC Grand Championship points! A ton of thanks go to all involved, but especially to my amazing show handling team, Daniel & Vanessa Sanchez!
This morning, under Judge Karen McFarlane, Orso was awarded Select Dog and Karma took Best of Opposite with handler Daniel Sanchez for more points toward their respective AKC Grand Championships! For Orso, it was a 4-point major! Little by little, these two are earning the points they need for their new titles! So very proud of them! Thanks to all involved!
This is a very exciting blog post for me because I get to share with Costa Bel Cane Corso’s cyber-family the article that I wrote for ShowSight Magazine on living with the Cane Corso breed. My 2-page article, titled “Living Large with the Cane Corso”, was published in the April 2012 issue of ShowSight Magazine for the magazine’s Cane Corso Breed Feature.
A ton of thanks goes to Michael Ertaskiran, President of the Cane Corso Association of America, for kindly asking me to write this article. I am honored to have been asked to represent our amazing breed in writing! Below are images of the cover of the magazine and my 2-page article. Click here for an Adobe file that will open in a separate window with a full size version of not just my article, but also those of Michael Ertaskiran titled “History of the Cane Corso” and Shauna DeMoss titled “Judging the Cane Corso.” Enjoy! This afternoon, Orso once again took Best of Opposite in Elkton, Florida, under Judge Jane Roppolo with handler Daniel Sanchez. Thanks to all involved in today’s win!
This morning, Orso took Best of Opposite and Karma took Select Bitch in Elkton, Florida, under Judge Linda Robey with handler Daniel Sanchez for more points toward their AKC Grand Championships. Thanks to all involved in today’s wins!
Cleo’s BOB win in Raleigh on 03.21.2012, at 13 months of age, making her a new AKC Grand Champion under Judge Dawn Hansen with handler Daniel Sanchez! Thanks to all involved!

This year’s Cane Corso Association of America (CCAA) Specialty Shows & other great events will be held in Las Vegas (Boulder City), Nevada! Tonight, I leave to Vegas to help out the CCAA, hang out with great Cane Corso folks and see some awesome dogs compete in the CCAA Breeder's Cup, Regionals & Nationals. I will also have the chance to attend fun & informative events such as the General Membership Meeting, Breed Seminar presented by Michael Ertaskiran & the Annual Awards Banquet where Orso will be honored with a medal!
I am very excited about this trip and are happy to be going dog-less! In honor of my furkids, I placed the ad below in the CCAA’s event program, enjoy! With the Cane Corso Association of America’s (CCAA) events just a couple of days away in Las Vegas, what better way to show some Cane Corso spirit than to wear it on my manicure!
